Rubber Bellows
Rubber Molded Convoluted Bellows can be complicated to mold, but Custom Rubber Corp. has the experience to make it look easy. Shown here is a rapid prototype in yellow, and a production part molded from a special, high-grade Nitrile rubber. The part is used on a newly designed gas pump dispenser. There are two holes in the top flange that allow for trace vapors to escape while the molded bellows portion is designed to contain the bulk of the fumes and fuel residue.
The biggest challenge with this part was the material. High-grade Nitriles often have poor hot tear strength which makes removing the part from the mold particularly challenging. Custom Rubber Corp. has developed techniques that allow the part to expand over for demolding while containing the part so that it doesn't pop like a balloon.
