Custom Rubber Corp.'s President, Charlie Braun, participated in the Shaker Heights Middle School "Design Days" event on May 7, 2019. Design Days brings in local community members with all types of backgrounds to discuss real-world applications for the Design Process.
Custom Rubber Corp. solves problems every day in their manufacturing operations and for customers and office administration - continuous improvement is necessary to survive and thrive in business today. Our problem solving is just like the International Baccalaureate Design Process and bringing real-world examples to the students was the order of the day.
Charlie presented a challenge to design a better way to demold one of the rubber products manufactured by Custom Rubber Corp. You can view his presentation and the accompanying YouTube video showing the current process.
Below are also some scans of the concepts that the students came up with - our favorite, since the part is a dog toy, was to hire a bunch of dogs to go into the mold, grab the parts, and shake the parts loose from the mold...
