Molded U-Channel
Outperforms
Extrusion
Tired struggling with "spaghetti" boxes of extruded rubber
u-channels, a military and government contractor turned to Custom Rubber
Corp. for assistance in finding a better solution to cover the rough edges of Kevlar helmets.
The helmets are available in three different sizes and are contoured to protect the
back of the head and neck while still permitting full visibility. (Continued
below.)

The work of taking a straight-line extrusion and making it conform to the uneven edges of the helmet edge had previously required more than 15
minutes of work per helmet. Custom Rubber Corp. designed and built a mold that could produce in high volumes the
first sized helmet edging; preliminary trials suggest
that this mold could cut assembly time to less than 5 minutes.
Another challenging aspect of the project
was finding a material that met a slightly outdated government specification while remaining cost effective, that matched the Pantone green requirement, and that was able to
accept and hold the various colored paints typically applied to the helmets, such as black,
green, tan, and blue. After a few attempts, Custom Rubber Corp., working in conjunction with our
material supplying partners, was able to engineer a material that was approved by the government.

rubber helmet parts
pictured are not in stock or for sale. These are examples
of custom-manufactured products that illustrate Custom Rubber Corp.'s extensive molding capabilities. Contact
