High-Grade Nitrile Seal

An experienced rubber molding company came to Custom Rubber Corp. to discuss outsourcing some of their higher-volume production. The company, now Custom Rubber Corp.'s customer, is an expert at low volume, hand-constructed molded rubber products with alternating layers of rubber and reinforcing material. But, their customer base often requests other seals—and when the quantities get into the tens of thousands, they were having difficulty. (Continued below.)

The part geometry for this seal is delicate, but did not present any substantial challenges. The rubber material, on the other hand, was very challenging. Custom Rubber Corp. took advantage of its multiple custom mixing partners and submitted three or four different rubber formulations from two different mixers before ultimately getting a material to pass. The specification calls for very high performance when subjected to a number of different oil immersion tests. In addition to passing the physical tests, the material had to be processable.

Ultimately, Custom Rubber Corp. and our customer were pleased with the material and have begun satisfying the ultimate customer with consistent quality and improving deliveries.

The relationship has grown and Custom Rubber Corp. is working on a number of other higher to medium volume seals for our customer.
