Customized Silicone Rubber Handle for Medical Instrument

In order to capitalize on silicone rubber's natural flexibility, as well as its sealing capability, Custom Rubber Corp.'s drew on its experience in molding rubber and bonding metal to rubber to suggest design changes that ultimately resulted in a superior handle design. Comfort and cleanliness were balanced throughout the design process, as a texturized surface design was chosen to maximize the surgeon's grip without risking contamination being left in deep grooves even after cleaning and sterilization.

The part is engineered with two separate cores, one on each end of a cylindrical aluminum insert, to guarantee that the rubber does not enter the threaded holes. One handle can house any number of different tools and each spherical handle has a flat spot to aid the surgeon orienting each tool after it has been secured in the handle. For situations where a little more force is required, the handle includes another threaded opening to house the "strike plate."
