Molded Rubber Housing Unit

When an existing customer in the electric power utilities industry needed assistance in molding a new rubber part, they contacted Custom Rubber Corp. to take advantage of our rubber design and rubber engineering capabilities. The resulting product was a molded rubber housing unit cover (pictured below), that is used to house the cable assembly in the customer's application. (Continued below.)

After reviewing the preliminary design plan, Custom Rubber Corp. revised the design and created a molded rubber housing unit that fit the customer's specifications and application perfectly. Several crucial requirements had to be considered during the design process, including durability, effectiveness of the product, material specifications, and the customer's cosmetic standards. To ensure that the molding rubber housing unit would be secured in place after being installed, Custom Rubber Corp. sized and located the outer holes to allow the unit to be press fit against studs. Inner holes on the molded rubber part serve a protective function, housing the various diodes used for the communications application. These design features ensure that the molded rubber housing unit achieves a perfect fit when installed, which also prevents potting material from leaking out.

In addition to molding this rubber part to the engineered design specifications, Custom Rubber Corp. met various finishing and material requirements when forming the part. The rubber material Custom Rubber Corp. used in the molding process permits the part to withstand an ambient air temperature of up to 185 degrees Fahrenheit. Finally, Custom Rubber Corp. manufactured the part with a parting line that would not interfere with the interior sealing surface, in accordance with the customer's cosmetic standards.
