Protective Rubber Covers for Sensitive Blood-Pressure Measurement Device
Custom Rubber Corp. worked with our customer to first design, then prototype,
and finally produce two finished rubber bumpers that protect the screen of
the monitor as well as the buttons and dials that are used to calibrate and activate
the blood pressure monitor. (Continued below.)

The design work began with the solid model of the plastic
case, and Custom Rubber assisted in developing configurations which would visually
compliment the rest of the device while providing the needed protection from drops
and bumps.
After the design was complete, Custom Rubber supplied
rapid prototypes using a three step process. First, the solid model was used
to create an SLA, hard plastic prototype. Second, this hard plastic prototype
was used to make a silicone rubber mold. Finally, the silicone mold was used
to cast urethane parts.
The urethane prototype parts exhibit many of the same physical properties
that the finished production parts are engineered to have: tensile and elongation, similar durometer,
and a rubbery feel. By taking the time to test the design with rapid prototypes, Custom
Rubber Corp. and the customer were able to confirm the proper fit and shape
of the molded rubber protective covers.
Designed for use with animals, the blood pressure
monitor is very fast and easy to use, key ingredients for accurately measuring
the blood pressure of animals who aren't always cooperative. And now, the device
can survive any number of drops to the exam room floor.
