Molded Electronic GPS Gasket

At the advent of the creation of the hand-held GPS, Custom Rubber Corp. was invited to be a member of the design team for one of the first units ever developed. In a joint effort with a plastic molder and the customer, Custom Rubber Corp. developed this complex rubber seal that joins the two halves of the plastic shell together as well as protect the unit from dust and debris. The rubber seal was also engineered to reduce the chances of the user dropping it by adding a ring of “grip-able” material to the unit while also allowing some give between the two plastic halves in case it did get dropped.
A durable EPDM rubber was ultimately chosen because of its superior sealing characteristics and excellent ozone resistance.
