Durometer Differentiation
When the same part is able to be used on two different products, the savings
can be significant. Sometimes the fit is well-designed to be identical, but
once testing is completed, two different hardnesses (durometers) might be needed.
Using two different colors can help to insure that these identically shaped
parts don't get mixed up during assembly. (Continued below.)

Custom Rubber Corp. has also developed alternate methods
of distinguishing two very similar parts from each other. These include putting
parts in a mixer with colored paint - the paint splatters on the part and clearly
indicates one similar part from the other.
