Rubber Engineering and Rubber Design Examples: Pump Housing Rubber Boot Seal with Integrated O-Ring
Custom Rubber Corp. was contacted by a leading engineering and construction consultant after their current parts did not perform as expected. The customer's previous industrial hose pump seal frequently leaked due to an o-ring that didn't quite meet the application's demands. The customer relied on Custom Rubber Corp.'s rubber engineering and rubber design expertise to provide a solution. Custom Rubber Corp. worked closely with the customer to design and manufacture this rubber boot seal with an integrated o-ring, offering an effective solution to the customer's problem. The industrial hose pump that this molded rubber seal goes onto is submerged, which required the customer to find an effective method of sealing the space between the casing and hose. Custom Rubber Corp.'s experience molding rubber seals provided the expertise the customer needed in a supplier. This watertight, molded rubber seal integrates an o-ring into the rest of the molded rubber design. Custom Rubber Corp. suggested the addition of a sealing bead to the flange, ensuring an even better seal between the chrome bracket and red pump casing. Custom Rubber Corp. was careful when designing the addition of this bead, as it could not be too close to the bolt pattern of the rubber seal. The bolt pattern's design is important to ensure that the flange engages and seals at the bead.
