Rubber Engineering and Rubber Design Examples: Molded Rubber Cover
Pictured below is a custom rubber cover design for an electronic device. Custom Rubber Corp. was contacted by a design team in need of Custom Rubber Corp.'s rubber engineering expertise and experience designing rubber parts. There were several critical features that required extensive engineering and design work between Custom Rubber Corp. and the customer. (Continued
below.)

The corners were the most vulnerable points on the device and required the most protection. In addition to protecting the device's corners, the unique design of the rubber cover's corners also allowed the device to stand on the front and left sides, as the customer requested.
Another unique feature engineered in the rubber cover's design is the addition of a connector cover that would seal the connectors when the ports were not in use. The rubber cover's design needed to offer protection to the entire device, it also needed to have minimal weight and volume, so that it could be easily carried around. Finally the rubber cover's design needed to allow the heatsink to remain exposed for proper ventilation. Keeping those requirements in mind, Custom Rubber Corp. was able to use their rubber engineering expertise to come up with a design that would be not only be lightweight and easy to carry around, but would also be functional and offer maximum protection.
